"I have to go there," you scream as you pound upstairs. "That's my home town!"
"We know," Steve says to you, not far ahead of you. He is wearing some kind of blue suit with red and white stripes around the midsection and a star on his chest. His shoes are thick and dark blue, stomping loudly on the polished glass of the stair steps. "That's exactly why you can't go."
"But my parents! My friends!" you exclaim, racing to keep up with the athletic man. How did he do that? It's like someone pressed fast forward on a recording - his speed appalls you. You run after him, following him into a large circular room with a wall made of windows that look over the cityscape. You have never been in here before, and it is impressive, with a stone bar and glass walkway that leads outside. On the walkway, Tony is walking briskly, machines folding out and placing bits of red and gold armor on his body. Steve walks by a table, grabbing a blue mask, where Natasha is loading her guns and Clint is fiddling with a bow.
"What is...?" you wonder out loud. Loki passes by you, his hands fiddling with the golden bronze bracers on his arms. Thor follows suit, wearing the bluish-silver armor and crimson cape he wore when you first saw him. You notice that the brothers look elegant, but dangerous, with their clothing and armor on. You watch with wonder and awe as Loki holds out his right hand, summoning a long golden staff with a sharp blade and blue orb on the end.
"How did you-?" you ask. "What's going on?"
"We're getting ready," Natasha tells you. Her voice is unusually cold and sharp, like a dagger. Clint slips a pair of dark sunglass-goggles over his head and you see Thor grab a hammer off the wall, where other weapons are also stacked on racks. Tony, now fully hidden in his Iron Man armor, jumps off the glass platform outside and falls downward, out of sight.
"NO!" you scream, running out after him. Oh god, did he just jump!? Thor throws an arm in front of you and you skid to a stop.
"The man knows what he's doing," he tells you in his burly voice. You look up at him, confused and frantic. Just then, you hear the whoosh of strong air flow, and Iron Man appears floating outside the windows, jet fire shooting out of his palms and heels.
"We've got to hurry," he tells the group. His voice is metallic, ushering the others to move faster.
"What about-"Steve begins.
"She's coming with us," Tony tells him. Your eyes widen. You expected more of a fight.
"With respect, Stark, the child cannot fight on her own," Thor explains with an edge to his voice. "She will not be able to defend herself in battle, let alone aid us in our mission."
"She'll do fine," Tony reassures Thor. "Just carry her around and she can tell you who's coming."
"Wait, what?" you ask. "How?"
Tony leaves, shooting into the sky before you can get an answer. You follow him with your eyes, lost. How are you going to be able to tell them that? You feel a hand grab your arm and pull you, and within seconds, you're slung over Thor's armored shoulder as he pounds onto the glass balcony and into the air. You have just enough awareness to scream as you prepare to fall to your death. Oh God, you're falling. Oh God, you're falling. Oh God you're...float...ing...?
You watch, completely dumbstruck, as the world below suddenly becomes smaller and smaller, moving under and away from you with incredible speed. You are flying. You are flying. You want to see ahead of you, but you fear if you dare turn your head or move at all, Thor will drop you. You watch the city landscape fly by, your head reeling. Your home is under attack. Under attack, to be ravaged, to be destroyed. What could you do?

---

Thor looms closer to the ground and you prepare for a jarring landing, but instead find that he lands gracefully on the concrete, slowing from a jog to a stop. He leans forward and you jump down from his shoulder, feeling a little numb and cold.
"Where are we?" he asks you. You look around. The buildings tower above you, but nothing moves. No people, no cars. The police must have quarantined the area already. You look for details you can recognize. A coffee shop, a small book store next to a bank...
"Foster Avenue," you tell him. "Where are the bad guys?"
Thor holds a finger to his ear, his face tight in concentration. He nods, then looks at you. "Stark tells me the Chitauri are in the lower region of the city, close to a location known as Graveseed Bay."
You bite your lip. Your apartment is close to Graveseed Bay. You swallow the lump in your throat and try to muster some ounce of bravery. "We need to go down Kings Highway all the way down to Bay Parkway. That will get us to Graveseed Bay," you tell him. He nods, indicating to you to lead the way. You turn around, racing down the empty street with the large muscled man behind you.
You sprint down past several blocks before you hear distant gunfire, and what sounds like an energy weapon discharging. A couple explosions soon follow.
"We're getting close to the action," you say, even though you know Thor can probably hear it too. He wraps an arm around your waist and lifts you both into the air, landing on the roof of a nearby building. Here, you can see most of the city, and the roads below. Not too far from you, you spot a heavy firefight between a mass of Chitauri and some kind of giant energy machine gun and a bunch of military tanks. The battle looks gruesome, but to you it appears like a bunch of toys playing together.
A loud jet engine rings in your ears and a large black jet passes over your heads. A man drops from its bottom, landing a meter or two away from you. Clint's sunglasses shine like bug eyes in the sun as he runs over to you.
"Tony told me to give this to you," he tells you, shoving a black earpiece in your hand. He turns to Thor and nods. Thor grabs him around the waist, lifting him into the air and carrying him away. You stand there, suddenly extremely lonely. You look down at the earpiece, then place it in your ear, preparing yourself for a loud screech or something. Instead, Tony's voice yells in your ear - but at a volume you can tolerate.
"-Get that jet over the bay, Natasha," Tony instructs. "I need eyes on that incoming carrier."
"On my way, Stark," Natasha's steely voice replies. You see the jet, now a black dot, bank left and disappear over the horizon. In front of you, Thor returns to your side, his face fierce and lion-like.
"Thor, take the kid to the intersection of King and Bay," Tony commands. "Cap needs some help getting some civilians out of the line of fire."
Thor looks at you expectantly, and you turn to him, ready to be lifted like a doll again. You didn't like being handled like this, but it beat running. He grabs you and pulls you to him, then swings his hammer and lifts you up and away.
"Turn left a bit," you tell him. You point to the steeple-looking radio tower. "Just past that thing is the intersection." Thor listens, turning slightly and moving with astonishing speed to the location you specified.
"Thor, there's hundreds of troopers coming your way!" Loki warns his brother over the comms link. This is cool. You feel like you're in a video game, or in those military movies you used to see. You hear the screech of energy balls flying past you and you freeze like a stone, petrified. Okay, not so cool now. Now it's absolutely terrifying.
"Don't let me die!" you beg Thor. He pulls a barrel roll, swooping around a sharp corner and in between an alleyway. You hear explosions and collisions and assume Thor as outmaneuvered a couple of the troopers on your tail. You smile a little, your fear somewhat stifled.
A large blast hits the brick close to you, and Thor wavers, trying to pull away. He speeds up and you feel the wind tugging your hair and clothes almost painfully. Banking and spinning, he turns another corner, almost hitting a building on the other side.
"I need assistance!" Thor screams. You hear more blasts echo behind you and curl your toes instinctively. Those were way too close.
"I'm in the middle of carrying out an advancement, Thor!" Loki retorts quickly. He sounds out of breath, and you hear the sharp clink of metal in the background.
"I've got you big guy," Clint says, and you see a black streak whoosh past you. A wail of pain is heard and another explosion. A couple more black blurs fly by and more explosions below and behind you.
"Thor, turn right!" Natasha screams. "You're heading straight into the firefight!"
Before he and slow down and make a split-second U-turn, a blue streak comes at you at an alarming pace and hits Thor in the face. His grip on you falls and you plummet, the ground suddenly looking a lot like a carpet.
A very hard, bone-shattering, pain-filled carpet that is ready to end your life. You let out a cry of desperation, your arms flailing for Thor's grip - for ANYTHING. Nothing touches your skin but the wind's harsh sting as you sink towards the ground. You close your eyes, hoping that the end doesn't hurt...
