THIS ANALYSIS IS INACCURATE. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I've seen a lot of you writing stories and drawing pictures about Loki, and are unsure if your version of Loki is accurate to the movie's portrayal of him. So to help you guys out, I'm going to give you a brief outline of his character using my own character analysis method, starting from his most obvious attributes to those that can be associated with someone like him.
Here's how it goes:
I present something that Loki does quite often (such as looking down on others). Then I present the reason that he does this (he's always been looked down to). Lastly, I give the solution HE used to solve this (to see himself as above, if not equal, to others).

Get the idea? Alright. Let's start with the obvious ones.

CHARACTER ANALYSIS FOR: LOKI LAUFEYSON

1. CRAVES ATTENTION
- Caused By: lack of attention in his childhood
- Solution: commits reckless and risky acts to gain it

2. TRIES TO PROVE HIS WORTH
- Caused By: being overlooked in his childhood
- Solution: gain power and respect to prove his worthiness

3. EMOTIONALLY DETACHED FROM OTHERS
- Caused By: his emotional needs not being met when he was younger
- Solution: bottling up his emotions and detaching himself from others

4. ENJOYS DRAMATICS/INFLICTING PAIN
- Caused By: identifying himself as a monster; feelings of betrayal from his false family; never seen to have emotion; receiving little to no sympathy
- Solution: creating an emotional wall to protect himself; inflicting pain to show his power and strength

5. LIES AND TRICKS
- Caused By: being overlooked as a child; never taken seriously because of his lack of importance to others; never getting his way; bottled up emotions cause negative judgements of others
- Solution: getting his way through trickery and lies

6. ISOLATES HIMSELF FROM OTHERS (EMOTIONALLY AND MENTALLY)
- Caused By: sudden realization that his family isn't real; discovering he is the son of the king of a monstrous enemy race; receiving no emotional stimulation as a child; realizing what he once thought he was is not actually true (not a brother to Thor or heir to the throne, but an adopted son)
Solution: separating himself from others physically and emotionally

PSYCHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF: LOKI LAUFEYSON

1. He craves power. This is caused by being overlooked and underestimated by others. He tries to gain power to prove his worth.

2. He separates himself from others. This is caused by his sudden new identity as the son of a monster, thus being a monster himself.

3. He doesn't care about how others feel. This is caused by his emotions and thoughts never being taken seriously or recognised. He bottles his emotions and has a "me against the world" outlook.

4. He likes to use trickery and lies to get his way. This is caused by never getting his way with others and no one siding with him. He gets his way by leading them through lies and trickery.

Emotional Stability: 2 (extremely unstable)
Mental Stability: 5 (some stimulation brought on by power)
Possible Mental/Emotional Disorders: Sociopathy, Low/Fragile Self-Esteem, Borderline Personality Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder

Things that cannot be identified in the movies, but can be assumed in his character:
- He is apathetic. He doesn't care for the welfare or feelings of others. "They didn't care for me, so I don't care about them."

- He sees himself as the better man over others. Because he feels his potential is never seen, he proves himself. "You don't see me as worthy? I'll MAKE you see me as worthy!"

- He HAS to get HIS way. Lack of attention, of course. "This WILL go my way, no matter what you do!"

- He's elusive and prefers to tackle problems at a side angle. Instead of using strength and skill to fight the enemy/overcome the obstacle, he uses wit and power. "There's a better solution to this that can get me the maximum I want out of it."

- He is the foil of his brother. So if Thor is loving, Loki is hateful. If Thor is strong, Loki uses brains. If Thor tackles head-on, Loki uses your strength and fatal flaw to defeat yourself. "I refuse to be my brother!"

- He holds grudges - against himself and others. He hates who he is, but hates others even more because he feels they don't understand or underestimate him. "You could never understand me!"

- He hates family value. If there's the chance that two of his enemies are in love/related, or he falls for one of them/is related to them, he'll try to destroy them to show them how he feels. "They should be punished for what I've been through!"

- He prefers solitude over interaction. This is probably a result of never being seen or taken seriously, or being overlooked in his past. Because of the lack of attention, he was left to himself - thus, he prefers to be alone. "I enjoy to be alone with my thoughts."

- He's a thinker. He had a lot of time to himself, with no one to notice him unless he did something incredibly outrageous, so he had to entertain himself. He used his mind to develop his strengths and keep his mind open, which unfortunately also resulted in some complicated plots and high levels of irritability towards others. "I have knowledge, and it has granted me power."

- He becomes jealous easily. Also a likely result of his lack of attention as a child, and never getting a chance to prove himself because of being in Thor's shadow. If someone has something he wants, or reminds him of something he hates, he destroys them for it. "You don't deserve to have that - I DO!"

SUITABLE PARTNERS FOR: LOKI LAUFEYSON

This is for the people who wish to write a good suitor/romantic partner that will compliment him and themself.

- To bring him out of his emotional wall, the partner would probably need to be sympathetic to his lifestyle and past and understand the hardships he's gone through. The best way for this is to have the partner go through a similar situation to his.

- To earn his trust without his deceit and lies, the partner would probably need to defend him. The best way for this is to have the partner support his ideas and actions enough to be trusted to listen to him without being forced to.

- To have Loki see them as an equal, the partner would probably need to be extremely powerful in one form or another. The best way for this is for the partner to have a skill or power that Loki craves/values highly (magic or mental power could be some ideas).

- To have Loki see them as valuable, the partner should have emotional sympathies like his. The "I'm a monster" and low self-esteem comes into play here. But don't have them beating each other down or saying "yeah, we're both monsters" because that leads to more of a Joker/Harley Quinn pairing. They can be despicable together, but they shouldn't make each other more monstrous.

- To have Loki enjoy their company and see them as important, the partner should be able to give him their (almost) undivided or devoted attention. Because he lacked this when he was younger, the partner is likely to win his favor if they show him that they hold him in high respects.
All in all, Loki would probably prefer a woman who is: Sympathetic, has a dark tragic past, agrees with his outlook, fears and/or respects him, gives him much-needed attention, balances his jealousy and hatred, deep-thinking, and is willing to help him.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO MAKE HIS SPOUSE EXACTLY LIKE THIS. A good writer can make any couple work. Loki's partner could be deceptive, dominative and narcissistic. If you can find a way for the couple to benefit each other, then there's not much to worry about.
Of course, there's always "the degenerative couple" where they seriously do NOT match together, and probably hate each other in some way...but seriously canNOT get away from each other. If you do it right, that works very well and has a good chance of interesting the reader better than the "we benefit each other/soulmate" deal.

I decided since I've seen a lot of writers struggling to make their Lokis as close to the movie ones as possible, I'd make it easier on them by supplying them with my character analysis.

NOTE: Check back OFTEN. I'm constantly adding new info as my analysis deepens.

Also, if you think I overlooked something, let me know. Chances hare, I probably have.
